Bongo: A rainstorm that swept through parts of the Lungu community in the Bongo District on March 10, 2025, left a trail of destruction in its wake with the roof of a classroom block of Fr. Lebel Memorial R/C KG/Primary School completely ripped up. The incident brought academic activities to a sudden halt, leaving pupils and staff distressed and stranded.
According to Ghana News Agency, in the wake of the devastation, help arrived swiftly from A-Ensonga Hearts, a non-governmental organization committed to improving lives and access to quality education in underserved communities. Within days of the incident, the NGO mobilized resources and repaired the damaged roof, allowing classes to resume in a safe and secure environment.
Mr. Thomas Azure Alukuke, the Headteacher of the School, stated that the timely intervention restored not only the physical structure but also the morale of the school community. “Their act of kindness has inspired us all with a renewed sense of hope and solidarity,” the Headteacher noted.
Remarkably, Ms. Kenndicta A-Ensonga Ajene, the Founder and Executive Director of A-Ensonga Hearts, was present at the school when the storm hit. She was there to oversee the Floor to Desk (F2D) Project, which aims to provide desks for pupils who previously had to learn on the bare floor. Upon witnessing the damage firsthand, Ajene promptly sought support to fund repairs, even though the emerging destruction was not part of the ongoing project.
The NGO’s response went beyond fixing the storm-damaged structure as A-Ensonga Hearts also took the opportunity to repair an additional section of roofing that had been faulty for months, ensuring it was fully restored using quality materials and careful supervision. “Thanks to this comprehensive intervention, the pupils of Fr. Lebel Memorial School were able to return to their classrooms without prolonged disruption, reinforcing A-Ensonga Hearts’ mission to promote quality education in underserved areas,” Ms. Ajene said.
