Burkina: Justice and facts of society dominate the headlines

This Friday’s Burkinabè dailies offer varied menus where we find subjects related to social facts and justice marked by the verdict of the trial of the former minister, Vincent Dabilgou , fell the day before.

“Vincent Dabilgou trial: 7 years in prison for the former Minister of Transport”, headlines the national daily Sidwaya which informs that the long-awaited verdict of the trial of the former minister and president of the New Time for Development party ( NTD), Vincent Dabilgou, is now known.

Indeed, reports the newspaper, the pronouncement of the final verdict, rendered in first instance at the High Court (TGI) Ouaga I, took place on Thursday August 17, 2023.

According to Sidwaya, the main defendant in this case, which has seen weeks of trial, Vincent Dabilgou and six other accused persons have been sentenced to prison terms and the payment of fines.

It is rightly that Le Pays, a private daily, sports in its headline: “TGI Ouaga I: Vincent Dabilgou sentenced to 7 years in prison and a fine of more than 3 billion FCFA”.

The newspaper clarifies that the New Time for Development (NTD) is suspended.

The subject also features on the front page of L’Express du Faso, a private daily published in Bobo-Dioulasso which also devotes its section ”As much to say…” under the title: “Vincent Dabilgou, for example”.

In another vein, Le Pays informs, through its ”Pot-pourri” section, that in the care of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ouahigouya, “discrimination (is) denounced”.
