Burkina Network Empowers Young and Female Leaders on Social Accountability

Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe Network of Young Leaders for Integrity (RBJLI) conducted a significant training session on Thursday, targeting young and female association leaders, members of special delegations, and opinion leaders. The event focused on enhancing their understanding of social accountability and civic engagement, crucial elements for Burkina Faso’s development and sovereignty.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Ms. Alida Da, praised the initiative led by RBJLI. She emphasized the importance of strengthening the capacities of young people and women in understanding accountability and citizen participation. Ms. Da highlighted that youth represent the future, while women play a pivotal role in educating society and upholding moral values.

Ms. Da further asserted that discussing social accountability and civic participation without involving women and young people would be ineffective. She reiterated CNDH’s commitment to supporting such initiatives in collaboration with civil society and the authorities to foster inclusive and participatory governance. She encouraged open discussions among participants to ensure they left with valuable insights for building Burkina Faso’s future.

Christian Momo, the RBJLI coordinator, explained that the initiative addresses the historically low representation of young people and women in decision-making bodies prior to 2022. He noted that since the establishment of special delegations, the presence of young individuals has increased, especially in the Transitional Legislative Assembly and various government structures. This workshop aims to further equip them on accountability and civic engagement, aligning with the vision of the country’s authorities.

Participants will benefit from two main modules focusing on local governance and the exercise of social accountability and citizen engagement. RBJLI, established in 2014, aims to promote integrity, good governance, and combat corruption through the mobilization and involvement of young people.
