EITI Holds Workshop in Koudougou to Promote Transparency in Extractive Sector

Ouagadougou: Koudougou hosted an awareness-raising workshop on transparency in the extractive sector on Thursday, initiated by the Permanent Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), AIB noted.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the activity focused on assessing the contribution of stakeholders to good governance in the sector. The president of the Koudougou municipal special delegation, Amede Pare, welcomed the holding of this campaign in his municipality and highlighted the benefits of transparency in the mining sector. He stated that it promotes the fight against corruption, strengthens local governance, improves public access to information, and strengthens investor confidence.

For his part, the permanent secretary of the EITI, Eric Zoure, indicated that the evaluation of extractive sector actors will be based on five criteria: the production of information, monitoring and control, the fight against corruption, the disclosure of information, and public perception.

This evaluation will be conducted through a technical rating (80%) by a committee of experts and a popular survey (20%) among communities, through face-to-face, online, and telephone surveys. A test phase is planned for 2026 before the implementation of an annual process.

Zoure thanked the local and traditional authorities for their support, while Mr. Pare urged the participants to become actively involved in order to become relays of information to the population.
