Winneba: The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is poised to commence its inaugural nationwide data collection for the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) on May 17, 2025. This survey aims to deliver consistent data on employment, multidimensional poverty, and food insecurity across Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, the QLFS will encompass 13,920 households from 1,160 enumeration areas, split between 50.9 percent urban and 49.1 percent rural regions. The initiative is being undertaken by GSS with technical assistance from the International Labour Organisation.
Dr. Faustina Frempong-Ainguah, Deputy Government Statistician, highlighted at the survey’s launch in Winneba, Central Region, that the exercise would bolster evidence-based planning and monitoring for national development. This is particularly vital in light of recent changes in work patterns under the 24-hour economy policy. The survey is designed to not only collect data but also to gain insights into how people in Ghana live, work, survive, and plan, which will aid the government and partners in making informed decisions.
Dr. Frempong-Ainguah urged all selected households to participate, emphasizing that the collected information would influence the country’s program development and resource allocation. She also called upon the media, local authorities, and community leaders to help raise public awareness about the survey. The GSS plans to provide regular updates through its official platforms and stakeholder briefings.
Mr. Francis Bright Mensah, Project Coordinator for the QLFS, emphasized the importance of diligence among field officers, noting that the accuracy of the data hinges on the quality of the interviews conducted. He stated that the survey results would support policy reviews related to employment, social protection, and economic inclusion, and assist in tracking progress toward national and global development goals. Mr. Mensah also encouraged selected households to cooperate with field officers by providing complete and truthful responses.
