Accra: The Police Hospital over the past week received 300 percent of patient turnout during the strike of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). The Medical Director of the Hospital, Accra Commissioner of Police, Dr. Otu Nyarko, informed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) during their working visit to the hospital to assess the situation.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Nyarko reported that the hospital experienced a significant surge in the number of patients seeking medical care, with a 300 percent increase over the past week. This situation was also observed at the Police Hospital in Kumasi and other police clinics nationwide.

Dr. Nyarko explained that although the increase in patient numbers put pressure on the hospital, contingency measures were implemented to manage the situation effectively. As part of these measures, all doctors on annual leave and study leave were recalled to ensure that no patient in need of healthca
re was turned away.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with some POMAB members, visited the Police Hospital in Accra on June 13, 2025. They aimed to commend the hospital administration and staff for their effective management of the increased patient numbers during the GRNMA strike. The IGP praised the Medical Director and his team for their dedication and thanked them for their invaluable service during this critical period.

Mr. Yohuno encouraged both the officers and civilian staff of the hospital to continue their hard work in saving lives. He also noted that the recent opening of the Police Hospital in Kumasi was timely. The Police Administration is committed to providing the necessary support to enhance service delivery at the hospital and all other police medical facilities.
