Morocco become first African State to qualify for World Cup semis

DOHA, Morocco National team have become the first African Country to make it through to the World Cup’s semi-finals.

 

The Lions of Atlas sailed through to the stage, thanks to Y. En-Nesyri’s first half goal against Portugal.

 

Approximately 36 years ago, Morocco made history by becoming the first African country to qualify for the round of 16 at the World Cup 1986 in Mexico.

 

Other African countries made it into quarter finals in the #World Cup tournaments but failed to progress into semis are Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

 

The winners Morocco were forced to play with only 10 players after Walid Cheddira booked a second yellow card in the injury time.

 

Cristiano Ronaldo was fielded in the second half to turn things around but missed golden opportunities to upset the African side.
