Students Educated on Career Path in Visual Arts

Kumasi: The Visual Arts Department of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in the Ashanti Region has held an educational session with selected Senior High School (SHS) students to explore career pathways within the visual arts sector. The engagement aimed to inspire and empower students pursuing visual arts to confidently pursue their chosen careers while dispelling common misconceptions about the field.

According to Ghana News Agency, participating schools included Bekwai SDA SHS, Dadease Agricultural SHS, Kumasi SHS, St. Louis Girls SHS, and Wesley High School, Bekwai. Mrs. Grace Agyapong Fosu, Head of the Visual Arts Department at the Ashanti Regional CNC, emphasized the essential and interdisciplinary role of visual arts in modern society.

She highlighted that visual arts are not limited to traditional creative expressions but are integrated into various sectors, including education, forensics, and healthcare. ‘In the security field, for instance, suspected criminals can be sketched based on vivid descriptions provided by witnesses,’ Mrs. Fosu explained.

She further outlined a wide range of career opportunities available to visual arts students, such as web design, photography, animation, graphic design, sculpture, fashion design, photojournalism, town planning, and teaching. Mrs. Fosu encouraged students to take advantage of the training programs offered by the CNC, noting that the department welcomes individuals interested in developing their artistic talents.

‘We invite students to visit the centre and undergo intensive practical training to refine their skills in the arts, which can lead to job creation and employment opportunities,’ she said. The initiative forms part of the CNC’s broader efforts to promote the visual arts and support the career development of young artists in the region.
