Uasin Gishu Youths Launch County-Wide Cleanup Initiative

Uasin Gishu: A section of youths from Uasin Gishu County have embarked on a clean-up exercise in the region to promote environmental conservation. The initiative, which began at Kapsoya in Ainabkoi sub-county and Ziwa in Soy sub-county, has now reached Eldoret City and is set to extend across the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, the volunteers today focused their efforts on cleaning Eldoret city’s central business district and the Eldoret Arboretum. The campaign is spearheaded by Uasin Gishu Chief Officer for Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources, Mark Some. He emphasized the alignment of the drive with the County administration’s commitment to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment.

‘We are proud to see our youth stepping up. We will continue to support such programs and remain focused on empowering youth-led activities. With their energy and commitment, we believe Eldoret can rival the cleanest cities in East Africa,’ Some stated.

In addition to the cleanup, the event served as an empowerment platform. While at the Arboretum, youths engaged in team-building sessions aimed at fostering leadership, innovation, and unity. County Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, Victorine Kapkiai, praised the young participants, urging them to broaden their engagement beyond sports to include agriculture, entrepreneurship, and other transformative programs.

‘Beyond sports, young people should also engage in agriculture and other sectors that contribute to personal and community growth,’ Kapkiai remarked.

County Government officials collectively reiterated their commitment to fostering youth leadership through programs that encourage responsible behaviors, environmental awareness, and sustainable development.
