USFA Coach Sets Sights on CAF Cup Group Stage

Ouagadougou: Union Sportive des Forces Armees (USFA) coach Amadou Sampo announced at a pre-match press conference for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup against AS Bgohloe-su of Togo that the team is determined to reach the group stage of the competition.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Coach Sampo emphasized the leaders’ commitment, noting that resources have been allocated to ensure the team’s progress. He stated, “The leaders are hungry. They have put the resources in place for this. The goal is to go further. We have to reach the group stage.”

Reflecting on the recent 0-1 loss against Rahimo FC in the AJSB Super Cup, Sampo highlighted the need to improve goal conversion. He remarked, “What we need to improve is in the level of converting our goal-scoring opportunities. The important thing is to score goals.”

Sampo expressed concern over the potential disappointment if the team fails to qualify, especially after efforts to organize an international tournament in Ouagadougou. He shared insights into the Togolese teams’ playstyle, acknowledging their tactical prowess and ambition to showcase players on a larger stage.

Central defender Patrick Malo and Yves Koutiama, key military team members, missed preparations due to their participation in the CHAN with Etalons A’ last month. However, their recent return to training is seen as a boost for the “Rouge et Bleu” club.

Captain Patrick Malo, present at the press conference, conveyed optimism, stating, “The mood is good. There is certainly pressure, but we are working to make this pressure positive.”

USFA’s quest for success in the CAF Cup marks their first return to African competition in over a decade, fueling their determination. AS Bgohloe-su of Togo, making their debut in African competition, did not attend the press conference.
