Burkina: Pharmaceutical Players Urged to Invest in Health Sovereignty

Ouagadougou: The representative of the Minister of Health, Dr. Zacharia YabrE, urged students and young pharmaceutical professionals on Saturday to invest in local production to contribute to achieving health sovereignty advocated by the highest authorities of Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Zacharia YabrE emphasized the importance of the younger generation in the pharmaceutical sector, describing them as a critical resource for ensuring pharmaceutical sovereignty in Burkina Faso. He made these remarks at a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Gamet laboratory, a local entity involved in the production of medicines.

Dr. YabrE highlighted the alignment of Gamet laboratory's operations with the national vision of pharmaceutical sovereignty and the development of the local pharmaceutical industry. He expressed hope that panel discussions at the event would motivate other stakeholders in the health sector to work towards achieving health sovereignty.

Dr. Anicet Sawadogo, Director General of the Gamet Laboratory, affirmed his organization's commitment to supporting governmental efforts in attaining health sovereignty. He mentioned that the anniversary event serves to enlighten the public on the laboratory's activities and the manufacturing conditions of locally made pharmaceutical products.

Pr Papa Madieye Gueye, the patron of the ceremony, praised the accomplishments of CEO Anicet Sawadogo, acknowledging his efforts in continuing the legacy of his late father, Dr. Sawadogo, who founded the company in 2000. Pr Gueye emphasized the importance of state support for the local pharmaceutical industry to further the goal of pharmaceutical sovereignty.

The 25th anniversary of the Gamet laboratory is celebrated under the theme 'Contribution of local pharmaceutical units for health sovereignty in Burkina Faso.'
