Graduates Lead Reforestation Efforts in Virou Village Forest

Bal©: As part of the patriotic immersion activities, high school graduates received practical advice on tree planting and planted hundreds of seedlings on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the reforestation site of the Virou village forest in the commune of Boromo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this environmental education activity was conducted by the provincial water and forestry department at the reforestation site, located 7km from Boromo. The High Commissioner of the Bal© province, Martin Bako, along with several local administrative authorities and the regional director of water and forests of the Bankui region, Ali Coulibaly, and representatives of the village, witnessed the application of good practices acquired by the campers in reforesting the 6-hectare site with species of plants with utilitarian values.

The graduates contributed to the patriotic commitment to regreening Faso. The supervisors advised them to take care of the trees they plant, as they do their own bodies. The authorities expressed their satisfaction with the eco-citizenship duties learned and fulfilled by the new graduates.

According to Ali Coulibaly, Regional Director of Water and Forestry for the Bankui region, this activity has instilled in the graduates a taste for reforestation. Mr. Coulibaly also expressed his satisfaction with their commitment to contributing to the country’s greening beyond this site.

For the provincial director of secondary education, the reforested site will serve as a place of pilgrimage for the next batch of high school graduates who will be able to see what their predecessors have accomplished. The Virou Village Forest reforestation site covers twelve hectares. The reforested site covers six hectares with a fence and a water borehole that will contribute to the maintenance of the plants.
