Ouagadougou: Mandated by the Minister of Infrastructure, Adama Luc SORGHO, Captain Ollo PALENFO, Secretary General of the Ministry, dedicated the entire day of September 5 to the Ouessa bridge construction site to assess the progress of the work and motivate the teams to swiftly complete the project, aiming to restore traffic on this vital route.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Ouessa Bridge, spanning the Mouhoun River, is undergoing urgent maintenance after a deck slab panel deteriorated. The suspension of heavy goods vehicle traffic has prompted the Ministry of Infrastructure’s VDPs to work through a public holiday. Captain Palenfo’s visit was aimed at inspiring the construction teams and reviewing the progress of the work being done to facilitate a rapid reopening of the bridge.
A temporary metal deck has been installed by technicians to reinforce the damaged span of the bridge, allowing for the safe passage of heavy goods vehicles that have been stranded for several days. The Secretary General showed satisfaction with the progress and urged the involved departments to stay alert against further minor damages. The construction company in charge confirmed that all necessary measures were being implemented for a safe and effective reopening.
Post-rainy season, a complete inspection of the structure is planned. The findings from this inspection will determine if additional reinforcement work is required to ensure the bridge’s durability and the safety of its users.
