Three Lives Lost in Makueni Road Accident


Makueni: Three people have lost their lives while 13 others sustained serious injuries after the matatu they were travelling in rammed into a trailer along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway in the wee hours of Tuesday. The 5.30am accident occurred at Malili Market in Mukaa Subcounty when the matatu driver rammed into the trailer from behind, killing two people on the spot, while another died while undergoing treatment.



According to Kenya News Agency, the injured, who suffered fractures among other injuries, were rushed to Sultan Hamud and Kilungu Sub County hospitals for treatment. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace with registration number KDP 689Q, belonging to Naekana Sacco, and a trailer Mercedes Benz with registration KBH746/ZD1239, both of which were towed to Salama Police Station.



Mukaa Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Buxton Mayabi confirmed the accident on Tuesday, stating that the driver may have been speeding, which resulted in the tragic incident. Mayabi appealed to motorists using the busy highway to observe traffic rules and avoid speeding, emphasizing that even driving at 80 kilometers per hour would ensure they reach their destinations safely and prevent such accidents.



The bodies have been moved to Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital mortuary for preservation, where they will await autopsy.
