Tuy: Civil Status Registers Being Digitized at Hound© Town Hall

Ouagadougou: Since Monday, August 4, 2025, the Hound© town hall has launched a process of digitizing its civil status registers. Initiated by the Ministry of Territorial Administration, this operation aims to secure and facilitate access to civil status data for citizens.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation is led by a team from the General Directorate for the Modernization and Security of Civil Status (DGMEC), in collaboration with municipal agents. It involves the digitization and security of more than 2,900 registers. Nissani Rodrigue Demb©l©, head of the civil status document security service at the DGMEC, stated that this initiative is part of the modernization of civil status. Its objective is to preserve the information contained in the registers while ensuring their security.

Digitization consists of scanning each register page by page to produce a digital image identical to the original document. The process includes several stages, such as the archival, IT and organizational evaluation of the registers, analysis and description of the documents, scanning, quality control, and the compilation and provision of consultation copies at the town hall.

The president of the Hound© special municipal delegation, Souleymane Dianda, welcomed this initiative, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, and the Program for Resilience, Local Governance and Basic Services, a partner in the operation. He remarked that this action modernizes civil status services and makes them more efficient to meet the needs of the population.

Mr. Dianda highlighted the risks faced by the preservation of physical records, including wear and tear, humidity, rodents, floods, fires, and security issues. He added that digitization will also help overcome staff shortages and reduce the time taken to deliver documents to users.
