Akuapem South NDC Faces Internal Rift Over GHS20,000 Monthly Allocation

Akuapem south: A disagreement has emerged within the Akuapem South Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the use of monthly financial support reportedly provided by the party's national leadership. The support, said to amount to GHS20,000 every month, is intended to help address challenges and operational needs within the constituency. However, concerns have been raised by some party executives who claim the funds are not being used for their intended purpose.

According to Ghana Web, Kwame Adjei, Branch Organiser for the Attakrom Electoral Area, alleged that despite months of disbursements, the money has not been directed towards resolving pressing issues facing the party at the grassroots level. He claimed that some constituency executives have instead prioritised spending the funds on funeral-related activities rather than on programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening the party's structures and addressing challenges confronting members.

"They're not ready to use the money for its intended purpose at the branches. The money is rather being used for funerals, and they'll insult you if you talk about it," he alleged. Adjei further claimed that party members at the branch level have seen little benefit from the financial support since the NDC assumed office. "It's not being used to address the needs of the party. Since we came to government, we don't know what the money has been used for," he stated.

He called on the party's National Chairman to intervene and investigate the matter to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of the funds. "The party National Chairman should look into the issue," he appealed. Adjei also suggested that the monthly allocation could be channelled into addressing developmental concerns within the constituency, particularly the poor state of roads in some communities. "Roads in the constituency are in bad shape, and that amount can be used to fuel equipment to address these issues," he said.

The allegations have reportedly created tension and dissatisfaction among some constituency executives, with concerns growing over how the funds are being managed and prioritised. The disagreement, according to Adjei, has led to disaffection within the executive body, as some members question whether the monthly support is achieving its intended impact.

The controversy appears to have sparked wider concern among party members beyond the constituency's executive ranks. Voice notes intercepted from various NDC communication platforms within the constituency suggest growing dissatisfaction over the management and utilisation of the monthly financial support. In the recordings, some members reportedly questioned whether the funds were being used in a manner that reflects the needs and priorities of the party at the grassroots level.

The discussions point to increasing calls for transparency and accountability, with some members urging the constituency leadership to provide a clear account of how the funds have been spent since the disbursements began. Party officials in the constituency are yet to publicly respond to the allegations. The development comes at a time when political parties are seeking to strengthen their grassroots structures and maintain unity while responding to the needs of supporters and communities.
