Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Inducts 44 New Professionals

Kumasi: The Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has inducted 44 graduates into the profession as part of efforts to expand Ghana's nutrition and dietetics workforce. The induction ceremony took place at the KATH Eye Centre Conference Room, emphasizing the significance of enhancing the nation's health sector.

According to Ghana Web, the event was held under the theme: 'A Step Into Professional Excellence And Lifelong Impact In Nutrition And Dietetics.' It officially recognized and approved the graduates as registered Nutritionists and Dieticians. Reverend Prince Baidoo, President of the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, urged the new professionals to adhere to high ethical standards. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity in their duties and encouraged families, particularly those of diabetic patients, to adopt healthy eating habits.

Deputy Chief Dietician at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Afuah Owusu Ansah, highlighted the need for increased recruitment in the sector. She pointed out that the field is understaffed compared to other health professions, with KATH having only ten personnel serving various regions. This shortage, she noted, limits access to nutrition care despite the rising incidence of diet-related diseases across the nation.

The addition of 44 new registrants marks a step toward strengthening nutrition services and improving public health outcomes in Ghana, according to the Academy.
