Ghanaian Scientist Develops Accident-Prevention Technology Attracting Global Attention

Ghana: Ghanaian artificial intelligence researcher Dr. Kwame Ardiabah has unveiled an AI-powered road safety innovation, the Intelligent Collision and Safety Surveillance Detection (ICSSD) System, which is attracting interest from major international automobile manufacturers. Speaking on GhanaWeb TV's BizTech programme with Mawuli Ahorlumegah, Dr. Ardiabah explained that the ICSSD system is designed to detect accident risks, monitor surrounding threats, and automatically intervene to prevent collisions before they occur.

According to Ghana Web, the technology recorded an accuracy rate of approximately 99 percent during testing, enabling it to identify potentially dangerous driving situations and respond proactively to enhance road safety. Beyond collision prevention, the system incorporates advanced security features, including the ability to detect suspicious activities around vehicles and provide comprehensive 360-degree surveillance coverage.

Dr. Kwame Ardiabah disclosed that several leading automobile manufacturers, including Tata Motors, have expressed interest in testing the technology for possible integration into future vehicle models. 'We have Tata and other major companies testing the technology so that it can eventually be incorporated into vehicles,' he revealed.

Despite the growing international interest, Dr. Ardiabah said his long-term vision is to ensure the technology is manufactured and deployed in Ghana. 'It was made by a Ghanaian, so we want to manufacture it in Ghana and use it for our security services, police vehicles, and the wider transport sector,' he said. The innovation highlights Ghana's growing contribution to artificial intelligence and smart mobility solutions, with the potential to improve road safety and vehicle security both locally and internationally.
