Ouagadougou: The National Police and the National Road Safety Office (ONASER) initiated a special multi-day operation last night aimed at improving road safety in Ouagadougou, educating 340 citizens on the mandatory use of helmets. Additionally, authorities seized 24 vehicle registration documents and impounded 84 two-wheeled vehicles for lack of proper lighting.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is part of a larger effort to combat road insecurity in Ouagadougou, officially launched on August 10, 2025. The operation is a collaboration between the National Police and ONASER, aimed at strengthening road discipline, preventing accidents, and safeguarding road users. Several police services, including the Ouagadougou District Police Stations, Kadiogo Regional Traffic Service, and the Emergency Police, are actively involved under the leadership of Chief Police Commissioner Hamado TASSEMBEDO.
The teams are conducting awareness campaigns and targeted checks on busy roads, focusing on the effective wearing of helmets, adherence to road safety rules, restrictions on certain vehicle types during traffic hours, lighting compliance, and blood alcohol level monitoring.
As of August 11, 2025, the operation has yielded significant results, including educating 340 citizens on helmet use, arresting two individuals for identity verification, impounding two four-wheeled vehicles for lack of lighting, seizing 24 vehicle registration documents for lighting issues, and impounding 84 two-wheeled vehicles along with two tricycles for non-compliance with driving hour restrictions.
