Riragia TVC Celebrates First Graduation Amidst Rapid Growth and National Recognition

Marani Sub County: Riragia Technical and Vocational College (TVC) marked a historic moment as it held its first graduation ceremony, drawing praise from local leaders and the Education Ministry. The occasion, which was graced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, saw 203 graduands feted across various disciplines.

According to Kenya News Agency, Riragia TVC’s Principal Dr. Paul Makori expressed gratitude to the Education Ministry for its support and acknowledged the leadership of its founding Principal, Mr. Evans Bosire, who now serves at Sigalagala National Polytechnic. Dr. Makori highlighted the government’s provision of equipment as a key factor in elevating technical training standards.

The Principal recalled the institution’s humble beginnings in 2019 with only five trainees, eight trainers, and five support staff. He noted the institution’s growth in national recognition and public trust, evidenced by the current enrollment of 2,672 trainees. Community outreach and local bursaries have boosted enrollment, with 700 students admitted in September and 462 in May, setting the college on track to reach its target of 5,000 students.

Dr. Makori congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to serve as ambassadors for the institution. He also recognized the efforts of Riragia TVC’s staff and thanked sponsors and families for their support.

The Kenya Association of Teaching and Training Institutions (KATTI) Secretary General Shadrack Tonui praised Riragia TVC as one of the region’s fastest-growing technical institutions and expressed support for the government’s target of enrolling two million trainees in TVET by July. He urged for the timely release of scholarships and loans to ensure effective planning and service delivery in higher education. Tonui also commended the government’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) initiative, which acknowledges skilled but uncertified artisans.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi called for the establishment of a dedicated administrative unit to support the growing needs of Riragia TVC. He pledged legislative support and highlighted land constraints as a significant challenge, urging the Ministry of Education to assist in acquiring additional land for expansion. Nyakundi reaffirmed his commitment to regional educational development and expressed gratitude to all partners involved.
