Accra: NPP communicator Awal Mohammed has shared a cryptic Facebook post that some party observers believe could be linked to a possible internal move involving former presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong. In the post, he reflected on past developments within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including suspensions, defections, and disciplinary actions involving senior members ahead of elections.
According to Ghana Web, he recalled instances where party officials and members either left the party or were sanctioned, yet the NPP still went on to secure electoral victories. Awal Mohammed also cited historical examples involving former party figures, including Kakra Essamuah and others who either changed their political allegiance or were removed from party positions during previous political cycles.
He mentioned that such developments have often occurred during election periods. "A clear pattern is emerging," he wrote, suggesting that internal changes tend to take place as the party prepares for elections. He added that similar developments could unfold ahead of the 2028 elections, hinting at the possibility of another senior party figure either stepping aside or being removed.
"Looking at things today, I foresee another party heavyweight either exiting voluntarily or getting sacked," he stated. He concluded by stressing that the party's interests must remain paramount. "At the end of the day, the party will always be bigger than any single individual," he added.
