UG Calls on Young Innovators to Lead Climate Change Solutions

Accra: The Africa Climate Collaborative (ACC) at the University of Ghana has opened applications for the GreenRes Hackathon 2026, a climate innovation challenge aimed at empowering young people to develop practical solutions to address climate change while creating pathways for green employment.

According to Ghana Web, the initiative seeks to bring together ambitious and innovative youth between the ages of 18 and 35 to design solutions that equip young people and marginalized communities with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to participate effectively in climate action and the emerging green economy.

The organisers emphasize that the hackathon is intended to serve as a platform for collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving, enabling participants to transform innovative ideas into impactful projects that can contribute to environmental sustainability and community resilience.

The Africa Climate Collaborative is particularly encouraging applications from women, persons with disabilities, refugees, and displaced persons, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that vulnerable groups are actively represented in climate innovation efforts.

Organisers believe that empowering these groups with climate knowledge and green career opportunities is essential to building resilient communities and accelerating the transition to a sustainable future.

Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside fellow innovators, develop practical solutions to climate-related challenges, and contribute to efforts aimed at creating a greener and more sustainable Africa.

The GreenRes Hackathon 2026 forms part of broader efforts by the Africa Climate Collaborative to inspire youth-driven climate leadership and transform ambition into meaningful action.

Interested applicants can register and obtain further information through the official Africa Climate Collaborative registration portal. "The future is green. Build it with us," the organisers said in a call to prospective participants.
