Accra: Weija-Gbawe MP Jerry Ahmed Shaib, who is also Second Deputy Minority Whip, has reaffirmed his commitment to healthcare access after visiting residents who underwent eye surgery under a constituency screening partnership. The visit took place this morning at SDA Valley View Hospital, where 40 beneficiaries were being discharged following procedures performed on June 17.

According to Ghana Web, the initiative stems from a week-long eye screening exercise conducted in March 2026 across the Weija-Gbawe Constituency. The outreach was held in collaboration with the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists from the United States, the Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), and medical professionals from Valley View Hospital. The screening identified residents in need of surgical eye care, with a commitment to ensure they received the necessary support.

Following the March exercise, 221 beneficiaries were shortlisted for further intervention. Of that number, 40 successfully reported to Valley View Hospital on June 16 and underwent eye surgery on June 17, 2026. They are scheduled for discharge today, June 18.

Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib visited the hospital this morning to interact with the beneficiaries and check on their recovery. 'I interacted with the beneficiaries, checked on their recovery, and reaffirmed my commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for all residents,' the MP said. He commended the medical team from Valley View Hospital, GAHS, and the Columbia Union Conference for their partnership in delivering the week-long outreach and subsequent surgeries.

The Second Deputy Minority Whip said the eye care intervention forms part of his broader agenda to improve health outcomes in Weija-Gbawe. He pledged to continue leveraging partnerships to bridge healthcare gaps, particularly for specialized services that are often out of reach for vulnerable constituents.
