WHAT TO DO NEXT: To join the Freshworks class action, go to https://rosenlegal.com/submit-form/?case_id=9546 or call Phillip Kim, Esq. toll-free at 866-767-3653 or email pkim@rosenlegal.com or cases@rosenlegal.com for information on the class action. WHY ROSEN LAW: We encourage investors to select qualified counsel with a track record of success in leadership roles. Often, firms issuing notices do not have comparable experience, resources or any meaningful peer recognition. Many of these firms do not actually handle securities class actions, but are merely middlemen that refer clients or partner with law firms that actually litigate the cases. Be wise in selecting counsel. The Rosen Law Firm represents investors throughout the globe, concentrating its practice in securities class actions and shareholder derivative litigation. Rosen Law Firm has achieved the largest ever securities class action settlement against a Chinese Company. Rosen Law Firm was Ranked No. 1 by ISS Securities Class Action Services for number of securities class action settlements in 2017. The firm has been ranked in the top 4 each year since 2013 and has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for investors. In 2019 alone the firm secured over $438 million for investors. In 2020, founding partner Laurence Rosen was named by law360 as a Titan of Plaintiffs’ Bar. Many of the firm’s attorneys have been recognized by Lawdragon and Super Lawyers.

DETAILS OF THE CASE: According to the lawsuit, the registration statement and prospectus used to effectuate Freshworks’ IPO were false and misleading and omitted to state that, at the time of the offering, the Company’s business had encountered obstacles. As a result, Freshworks’ net dollar retention rate was plateauing, and its revenue growth rate and billings were decelerating. As the truth about Freshworks’ business reached the market, the value of its shares declined dramatically, causing Freshworks investors to suffer significant damages. Indeed, by the commencement of the action, Freshworks’ shares traded as low as $10.51 per share, representing a decline of over 70% from the IPO price.

To join the Freshworks class action, go to https://rosenlegal.com/submit-form/?case_id=9546 or call Phillip Kim, Esq. toll-free at 866-767-3653 or email pkim@rosenlegal.com or cases@rosenlegal.com for information on the class action.

No Class Has Been Certified. Until a class is certified, you are not represented by counsel unless you retain one. You may select counsel of your choice. You may also remain an absent class member and do nothing at this point. An investor’s ability to share in any potential future recovery is not dependent upon serving as lead plaintiff.

CGTN:How do emergency wards in China cope with increasing COVID patients?

BEIJING, Dec. 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Ninety-year-old Qu Fucheng was waiting for his COVID-19 treatment in Wuhan Zhongnan Hospital when his son realized how crowded the emergency department was.

CGTN_Emergency_Ward

“My father was in very critical condition at home, ” the son told CGTN, frowning. “If something had happened to him because I didn’t handle the situation well, I don’t know how I would ever have been able to forgive myself.”

The deputy head of the department said they had seen “a significant increase” in the number of patients, while most of the severely ill were senior people with underlying diseases.

In a bid to leave no patient unattended, the emergency department converted the emergency observation room into a buffer zone to reduce waiting time.

And that’s where Qu Fucheng was transferred to.

“Seeing my father’s serious condition, the doctors immediately took him to one of the beds,” the son said. “I thought it wouldn’t have gone that smoothly when I was at home.”

To treat as many patients as possible, all medical personnel and equipment have worked around the clock with full “combat effectiveness.” After receiving first aid treatment, Qu’s condition soon saw some improvement.

Head nurse Tian Yu told CGTN that a buffer zone is not enough to smooth the workflow, adding that a good workflow is critical for the emergency department.

No “hospital run”

Such measures are being taken in many emergency wards across China, as the country saw an increase in COVID patients after lifting some of the COVID restrictions.

Some worried there will be too many patients for the hospitals to host, leading to a so-called “hospital run” like a bank run during an economic crisis. Luckily this didn’t happen thanks to timely adjustments in hospitals.

Cities like Beijing built more temporary fever clinics, while others like Chongqing expanded existing fever-treating department and reassigned doctors from other departments to support COVID treatment.

Online solution

The Chinese government also expanded online medical services for COVID-19 patients on December 12. Areas like Beijing, Zhejiang and Hunan have already put the new policy into practice.

“The online medical services can provide consultation and medication guidance for more patients who stay at home,” Jiao Yahui, head of the Bureau of Medical Administration under NHC, told China Media Group. “Prescriptions can be made online and drugs would be delivered offline, which can ease the pressure of visiting doctors offline, and avoid crowds in hospitals to reduce the risk of cross-infections.”

South Africa mourns Boksburg tanker blast victims as death toll rises to 34

JOHANNESBURG, The number of deaths due to the gas tanker explosion has tripled since the incident happened on Christmas Eve.

Families and friends of victims of a gas tanker explosion in Johannesburg on Christmas Eve gathered on Friday morning for a memorial service, even as the death toll increased to 34 from an earlier estimate of 27, the provincial health department said.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla joined relatives of the victims to pay their respects by lighting candles at the Boksburg Civic Centre.

The blast tore the roof off the emergency department at the Tambo Memorial hospital in the city’s Boksburg suburb on Saturday. Many bystanders were also injured, while it destroyed houses and several cars.

The latest casualty numbers were announced in a statement on Friday by a spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Health.

“The Department of Health can confirm that the death toll from the Boksburg Explosion incident has risen to 34 as of Friday, 30 December 2022,” it said.

The victims included 11 health workers and 23 members of the public, the spokesperson said, adding that the numbers were constantly being updated. The severe nature of the burns inflicted by the blast was expected to result in an increase in the number of deaths, authorities had earlier said.

The victims included children as young as nine, according to a message shared by the health department on social media commemorating a memorial for the victims.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa promised relief to the victims and said authorities were investigating the incident.

Press Release President Barrow Receives ECOWAS Commission President, Outgoing ECOMIG Commander

State House, Banjul, 30th December 2022: In a series of engagements, President Adama Barrow, Friday, 30th December 2022, received the ECOWAS Commission President, H.E. Dr Omar Touray and the Outgoing ECOMIG Commander in The Gambia, Colonel Cheikh Omar Tamba, at the State House in Banjul.

In his audience with Dr Touray, the President expressed pride in having the first Gambian to assume such a position in the sub-regional body, adding it happened when the sub-region yearned for diplomacy and technical expertise to tackle the challenges confronting it. “You came at a time when the subregion is confronted with many challenges, but with your expertise and diplomatic skills, we will continue to support you,” President said.

Following his audience with the President, Dr Touray said he was on his first official mission since assuming office to express gratitude to the Gambian people through the President and Government of The Gambia for being selected in his current position. “I believe thousands of Gambians could have been selected for this position. Having this role assigned to me is a mark of confidence that I am very appreciative of.” He stated.

Dr Touray noted that it was also an opportunity to recommit and re-engage himself to work for what is best for the region and seek guidance from the President on the number of issues the region is facing. He remarked that the President’s ideas would be highly beneficial at the regional level.

He commented on the Commission’s aims, stating that peace and security are key strategic goals to strengthen the region’s response capabilities through early warning systems, deployment, and preventive diplomacy.

Given the region’s highly youthful population, he emphasized the importance of mainstreaming women and youth in development. He outlined trade and constitutionalism, amongst others, that need crucial attention. Dr Touray urged ECOWAS citizens to cherish and strengthen the community for future generations.

In a separate engagement, President Barrow bade farewell to the outgoing Commander of the ECOMIG forces in the Gambia,  Cheikh Omar Tamba, who he described as a  professional, frank and trustworthy person. He commended Tamba and his predecessors for nobly serving The Gambia.

“ECOWAS wants to use The Gambia as a model, and I am grateful to all the Heads of State for their support. I believe in democracy, and we can entrench it in our country,” the President said, expressing optimism that the continued security sector reforms would strengthen its capacity-building component.

Commander Tamba, for his part, thanked the President for enabling them to do their work.

Sinopec Sets A New Vertical Well Depth Record of 8,866 Meters in the Sichuan Basin, China.

Jiyang Shale Oil .

Sinopec Sets A New Vertical Well Depth Record of 8,866 Meters in the Sichuan Basin, China

BEIJING, Dec. 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (HKG: 0386, “Sinopec”) announced that its Yuanshen-1 risk exploration well in the Sichuan Basin had successfully completed the drilling at a depth of 8,866 meters, beating the previous deepest record in the Sichuan Basin set by its Rentan-1 well.

Sinopec Sets A New Vertical Well Depth Record of 8,866 Meters in the Sichuan Basin, China.

A major breakthrough of Sinopec’s “Project Deep Earth,” the Yuanshen-1 well has reached the deepest oil and gas formation in burial depth in the Sichuan Basin and further shows the great potential of deep ancient carbonate rocks in the region.

On the same day, Sinopec officially unveiled the “Project Deep Earth – Natural Gas Base in Sichuan and Chongqing”, in collaboration with Sinopec Exploration Company, Sinopec Southwest Oil & Gas Company, Sinopec Zhongyuan Oilfield Company, Sinopec Jianghan Oilfield Company and Sinopec East China Oil & Gas Company. This is Sinopec’s third “Project Deep Earth” base after the Shunbei Oilfield and Jiyang Shale Oil bases.

To date, Sinopec’s deep natural gas resources in the Sichuan Basin in areas with mineral rights have reached 15 trillion cubic meters, which holds a heavy weight for China’s natural gas reserves and production growth.

The Yuanshen-1 well has reached the deepest hydrocarbon reservoir in the Sichuan basin – the mound-shoal complex of the platform marginal facies in Dengying Formation. During the exploration, the ultra-deep carbonate rock, buried at a depth of over 8,700 meters, still showed positive hydrocarbon evidence in the porous reservoir.

Drilling to a depth of over 8,000 meters can bring many challenges for global industrial players. The large-size upper casing weighs 517 tonnes at ground level, which is a challenge to the rig’s lifting and casing capabilities. The ultra-high temperature in the deep earth also has high requirements for the drilling fluid’s stability and anti-pollution capability, and coring at such depths is difficult and time-consuming. To combat these challenges, Sinopec has developed five key technologies for ultra-deep drilling to support the oil and gas exploration in deep and ultra-deep carbonate reservoirs.

Sinopec has continually advanced deep hydrocarbon exploration in the Sichuan Basin, mainly including conventional gas in deep marine carbonate rocks and deep shale gas. It has discovered the Puguang, Yuanba and Chuanxi gas fields, and to date, Sinopec’s annual conventional gas production capacity from deep marine carbonate reservoirs has exceeded 12 billion cubic meters.

UnionPay International’s continuous expansion of its global network sees over 200 million cards issued outside the Chinese Mainland

10 Years of Providing Innovative Global Payment Services

SHANGHAI, Dec. 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — With the issuance of UnionPay cards exceeding 200 million outside the Chinese Mainland, UnionPay International (UPI) is stepping into a new decade of providing high quality, cost effective and secure cross-border payment services to the world’s largest cardholder base. UPI’s partners have expanded from 60 initial members since establishment in 2012 to 2,500 institutions internationally with an acceptance network that currently spans 181 countries and regions, 78 of which now issue UnionPay cards, ensuring convenient local services to an ever-growing number of global UnionPay cardholders and merchants.

UnionPay International vastly improves the cross-border payment experience for local cardholders

Over the past decade, UPI has ceaselessly developed cutting-edge payment technology to share a brand-new cross-border payment experience with UnionPay cardholders in every corner of the globe. Presently, outside the Chinese Mainland, 38 million global merchants accept UnionPay cards, a four-fold increase since 2012, with four million new merchants added in 2022 alone. UnionPay card acceptance rates in APAC, Europe and North America have reached 95%, 80% and 80% respectively, while 22 million online merchants in 200 countries and regions now use UnionPay for payments.

During these ten years, the digital transformation of the global payments industry has developed rapidly, and UPI has accelerated product iterations and service upgrades to meet the ever-changing payment habits of international customers. Collaborating closely with central banks, national switch networks, and payment alliances, UPI has shared its innovative financial infrastructure and technical standards in countries such as Thailand, Philippines and has become the unified cross-border chip card standard of Asian Payment Network.

UPI’s global expansion reflects its impressive technological and digital innovation

In recent years, the unified UnionPay App was launched for the banking industry that supports UnionPay contactless, QR code and In-APP payments, largely enhancing mobile payment experiences for cardholders. Including the UnionPay App, more than 170 UnionPay standard e-wallets have been launched outside the Chinese mainland, and over 16 million international merchants can experience the convenience brought by QR code payments or the “swipe” QuickPass.

In 2018, the Hong Kong and Macau SAR version of UnionPay App was launched and in four years, has become one of the most popular mobile payment products for residents. Access to UnionPay mobile payment services includes Singapore’s PayLah!, Malaysia’s Boost, Thailand’s K Plus, as well as multiple other leading products. Behind these achievements lie of UPI’s technical service platforms, including developer, cloud card issuance, and scenario service platforms, which reduce technical difficulties and costs for partners to access UnionPay mobile services, supporting more financial institutions. Telecommunications, retail, and other enterprises have also joined the UnionPay mobile payment ecosystem to enhance the mobile payment experience of international cardholders.

UnionPay’s global reach continues apace and will expand further in the coming decade

Expanding its global reach, ongoing innovation, and ease-of-use for cardholders the world over, the first issuance of UnionPay cards in Zambia launched earlier this year where they are fast becoming a new payment preference. More than 20 million UnionPay cards have been issued internationally since the beginning of this year, with transaction rates exceeding pre-pandemic levels. In APAC, one-in-four newly issued bank cards is from UnionPay which now accounts for 95% of debit cards in Hong Kong and Macau SAR. The Nilson Report ranked UnionPay’s transaction volume first among major international card issuers in APAC for 2021.
